For our stay in Bergen, Norway, my wife and I chose the Hotel No13 in the center of the town. The hotel is part of the Ascend Hotel Collection by Choice Hotels. Here is my review of the two night experience in May 2024.
Hotel No13 – Location
The hotel is located at Torgallmenningen in the heart of the city. Many city center attractions, including the harbor, are in walking distance. The area also features multiple restaurants and supermarkets, which felt very handy during our stay.
If you arrive by public transport, Byparken, terminal station of the Bybanen Light Rail Line 1, is just a short walk away from the hotel. The light rail line offers you a direct connection to Bergen Airport (BGO). There is also a bus stop, Olav Kyrres Gate, nearby. It is offering connections to a vast range of bus lines.
Hotel No13 – Room
My wife and I had two nights in May 2024, Saturday to Monday. Monday was a public holiday. The flexible rate for two nights n a double room, including breakfast, was 2,465 NOK, roughly 211 Euro, which is a quite nice rate in the Norwegian city. The hotel is boutique style, coming with art prints on the walls. The room was not overwhelmingly large, but functional – finally, you stay out in the city most of the time anyway. It featured a fridge (as mini bar) and a reasonably large work desk.
I am not too much a fan of black designs, but the bathroom was very fine and functional as well. The toilet niche was rather narrow, though. Basic amenities were given by dispensers. The room was clean and well-maintained.
Hotel No13 – Breakfast
While the reception area features a nice cafe, breakfast at the Hotel No13 in Bergen is served in the basement. The space was a bit of narrow, but felt to suit the needs of the hotel quite fine. The breakfast buffet was really nice. It did not only feature a surprisingly large range of items, but also had really nice quality. Here and there, the service was a bit slow at booked-out times – but that was not too disturbing.
Hotel No13 – Service
The staff in the hotel was very friendly and welcoming. We had a very relaxed time in the hotel. The WiFi worked very well, too, which I highly appreciated. Hotel No13 does not have a gym, but there is a local cooperation for that. Please note that even if you reserve the hotel via Choice Hotels, you won’t get any status points or status nights there. As all Choice Hotels in Scandinavia, they operate their own frequent sleeper program, which is quite bothering.
Hotel No13 – My View
Hotel No13 is a nice and stylish city hotel. The comfort is absolutely fine, the location is fantastic. We especially liked the close connection to the Bybanen station, which later brought us to the Main Station for the Bergensbanen ride to Oslo. I would definitely recommend the place for a stay in the city.
