Fortune Favors The Bold is already the fourth album by 49 Winchester. I received the recording before the release on 13th May 2022 and thus could share my thoughts with you. Here is my review.
49 Winchester – About The Artists
49 Winchester is a band, which has been formed in the 2,000 people town of Castlewood, Virginia. They are an Americana band, which nowadays is somewhere between country and rock music. The band members are Isaac Gibson (vocals/guitar), Chase Chafin (bass), Bus Shelton (guitar), Dillon Cridlin (drums) and Noah Patrick (steel guitar). Their first major release was a 2014 self-titled album. Their most recent album, III, is dated as of October 2020.
49 Winchester – Fortune Favors The Bold – Track by Track
The ten track album lasts 34 minutes.
1. Annabel
49 Winchester open their 2022 with the melodic Annabel. The sound of the track is rather traditional. However, the some dark guitar sounds lead to a very characteristic vibe. Nice one.
2. Man’s Best Friend
Man’s Best Friend is a rather present track. While my atheistic and very German mind looked forward to a song about dogs, 49 Winchester destroy these thoughts with the very first lines.
Well the best friend that a man can have is Jesus
And the worst one he can have is named Jim Beam
One of them just makes me as mean as a striped snake
And the other one has washed my spirit clean
The lyrics of this 3:19 minute track are definitely fun to listen to.
3. Russell County Line
While the two openers had an energetic touch, Russell County Line proofs that the band is also able to go for emotional country music. The song is a lovely country rock ballad. Definitely enjoy the listen.
4. All I Need
All I Need is a nice country rocker with a strong vibe. A lovely road trip soundtrack with a beautiful vibe. Still, the song has its very own signature, which I highly appreciate.
5. Hillbilly Daydream
The Hillbilly Daydream comes with a nice bassy groove and good melody lines put on top of that. A very short song (2:18 minutes), which nonetheless manages to leave a mark.
6. Damn Darlin’
Damn Darlin’ is the second already featured song of the album, which is rather going for the emotional, ballad-ish profile. Apart from singer Isaac Gibson, only Don Eanes on the keys is really having a major presence in this beautiful track.
7. Fortune Favors The Bold
The title track is one of the songs of the album, which most distant to country music. Nice organ sounds and a cool rhythm in this one, which is simply a good listen.
8. Second Chance
Just let me go, get your hooks out from under my skin
Just let me know, a second chance just ain’t coming again
A second chance just ain’t coming again
The intense vocal performance in the chorus is he key element of this slow, emotional country-folk track. Great work on the guitar side – but the lead vocals are simply best. One of the best listens of the album to me.
9. Neon
Neon is a beautiful track which also has a nice blues texture. Great song, which again comes with very good and straight lyrics.
10. Last Call
Classic country music sounds in the very last song. A nice and good listen song closes the album. Nice.

49 Winchester – Fortune Favors The Bold – My View
49 Winchester show their talent in their 2022 album. Straight, traditional style country music, which is inspired by rock and other (Americana) genres. I would not see the quality of the album on the very top class level, but it is definititely an absolutely enjoyable listen. Thumbs up and a big smile to the Virginia boys.
