Hotel Simon or Simon’s Plaza – I found both names for the same hotel in Grevenmacher, close to the GermanLuxembourg border. Finally, the hotel was my stay during the Women Handball World Championships group matches in Trier in November 2025. I originally planned to have part of the nights in Trier itself (my stay was interrupted by a business trip from Luxembourg Airport (LUX)), but then decided to stick with staying in this hotel in the small European country. Here is my hotel review.

Hotel Simon’s Plaza – Location & Access

The hotel is located in Potaschberg, a Western borough of Grevenmacher. Despite the motorway between Trier and Luxembourg right in front of the hotel, the place feels rather calm and peaceful. Traffic noise is very limited. Apart from the services the hotel itself is offering, there are not too many services right around. However, there is a motorway service stop on the Northern side of the A1 motorway, which offers food and basic shopping as well. It feels to somehow belong to the same company as the hotel (at least regarding the naming of both places).

You typically drive to the hotel. Driving distance to Trier City Center is roughly 25km, to the center of Luxembourg City roughly 30km. I majorly chose the hotel as it is rather close to Luxembourg Airport (LUX), roughly15 km. The hotel offers free outdoor parking and a complimentary parking garage. Alternatively, there is a bus stop with multiple connections right in front of the hotel, including Grevenmacher itself, but also Echternach and Kirchberg, where Luxembourg Expo is located.

Hotel Simon’s Plaza – The Room

I had two stays in the hotel in November, just interrupted by one night in Hamburg. The stays were from Tuesday to Thursday and from Friday to Sunday in late November. The price per night was roughly 100 EUR per night, including breakfast. In both cases, I had a standard single room, including breakfast. The rooms were rather equivalent, so that I just feature one of them. They were not overwhelmingly posh, but very functional. For example, I liked the large work desk, the distribution of power sockets or the major storage space for luggage. There were also some fee drinks in the mini bar, which I especially like if you have a late evening arrival.

The bathroom was in line with the remaining room: not an absolute beauty – maybe even less than the living/sleeping area – but well maintained and functional. Basic amenities were given in dispensers. The bathroom also features sufficient space for your toiletries, so that I overall really liked the experience.

Hotel Simon’s Plaza – Breakfast

The restaurant of the hotel is very popular among the locals during daytime and in the evening. It comes with large windows and is really beautiful. In the morning, it is used for the breakfast buffet. It is not the widest selection of items you get in the industry, but Simon’s Plaza offers a nice selection at good quality indeed. The staff was very friendly as well. As I had to leave early for the airport on Thursday, the hotel provided me a breakfast bag at check-out. I absolutely loved that service.

Hotel Simon’s Plaza – Services

Checking in and out in the hotel worked smoothly overall. The WiFi of the hotel worked overall fine. I had a bit of issues during the second stay, though, and had to use mobile network here and there. Somehow a fun fact is that you cannot use the elevator right from the parking garage to the hotel room floors. It always stops on ground floor, right at the reception, for safety reasons. I never had something like this before at a hotel, but feel that it is somehow sensible. Hotel Simon’s Plaza also offers a small gym.

Hotel Simon’s Plaza – My View

There are some minor downside, but overall, Hotel Simon’s Plaza is a very reliable and solid choice. Even though Luxembourg’s public transport is very good, you likely need a car. However, then the hotel might even serve as an airport hotel. I definitely enjoyed my stay there.
