  • Very solid classic rock sound
  • Rather strong in emotional tracks

6th December is St. Nicholas’ Day in Germany. Children are getting some sweets, if they put (well-cleaned) shoes in front of their room or flat. A German band put some musical extras on top of that day in 2024: the rock band Privacy released their debut EP Dreams on that day. I found them on a promotion platform and share my view.

Privacy – About The Artists

Privacy are a band from Osnabrück in Germany. They are doing a mixture of alternative rock and pop-rock. The band members are Phillip Neitzel (vocals, guitar), Jannik Tonsing (drums), Christopher Hillebrandt (guitar) and Patrick Ehrenbrink (bass). They started to release music in 2020, when they published their first single Break Free.

Privacy – Dreams – Track by Track

The five track EP lasts 17 minutes.

1. Runaway

The EP starts with the energetic power rock track Runaway. The song feels being rather “classic”, which unfortunately also means that it not that innovative. The Germans do the rather straight sound in a nice way, though.

2. Dreams

The second track is the title track of the EP. I like how it is moving between rather emotional moments and very rocking and energetic parts. A rather slow and hymnic song, which is definitely a nice listen.

3. Our Garden

I love to use the phrase in these moments, that rockers simply do the best ballads. It feels so stereotypical – but songs like the beautiful Our Garden just underline it. You want to rock with Privacy, bang your head – but then they touch your heart with this one, nicely driven by the piano.

4. Start All Over

Start All Over is not that much of a ballad like Our Garden, but it is again aiming for a rather gentle and not too fast listen. The slightly raspy voice by Phillip Neitzel has a really nice touch in this listen. The melancholic feelings turns into some nice rock power towards the end, by the way.

5. My Heart Is Yours

My Heart Is Yours – the band Privacy definitely feels to be on the emotional side on their EP. The last song of the EP would have been a good choice for a late 1980’s radio rock song. A bit of kitschy in the verses, some rock power in the chorus. I still like that blending.

Privacy – Dreams – My View

Especially if you favor softer styles of classic rock, Privacy does deliver you a nice soundtrack for your next party. There are some weaker spots at Dreams, but overall, it is a very solid listen.
