Flyctory.com Pros

  • Strong and promising debut
  • Nice range of different elements

The German alternative rock band Mess Machine is at the very first steps of their career. So far, they have just released one single. On 8th August 2025, they add their first EP. Here is my review of Aftermath.

Mess Machine- About The Artists

Mess Machine are an alternative rock band from Wuppertal, Germany. On 11th July 2025, they released their debut single Jango, which is also part of Aftermath. The trio consists of Matthias Ballke (vocals, guitar), Jan Matthes (drums) and Mario Smida (bass).

Mess Machine – Aftermath – Track by Track

The five song EP lasts 17 minutes.

1. Locomotive

One of the first reels on Mess Machine’s Instagram page is titled You Like It Raw? The opener of the band’s debut EP feels to perfectly fit into this thought. The strong riffs, the nattering voice of Matthias Ballke – these guys want to rock without limits. Locomotive promisingly does exactly that.

2. Jango

Jango has been the first (and so far: the only) song the German band has shared so far. The song has even more of a hard rock spirit. If you like energetic guitar rock tracks with a slightly dark vibe, this trio might please you with their single release.

3. Falling Away

Falling Away starts significantly more gently than its predecessors. However, after a little less than a minute, your speakers (or headphones) need to deal with fat basses again. The song is nicely driven from the drum section by Jan Matthes. The roughness on the vocal side creates a strong atmosphere.

4. Wide Awake

Compared to the songs before, Wide Awake is a rather gentle song. Nonetheless, you won’t miss guitar riffs in this track. And I am sure that this one is a great one to party with the trio when they are on stage. The slight touch of folk-rock needs to a nice different flavor on Aftermath.

5. Pied Piper

There is no song called Aftermath, so that Pied Piper is already taking the role of the chucker-out. The Germans goes for some good rock power again, while Ballke on the microphone feels slightly melancholic. Despite the 2:47 minute listen is the shortest one of the EP, it has a nice variety of different elements in stock.

Mess Machine – Aftermath – My View

Aftermath is a strong and promising debut. The German trio defines their own sound, without being boring or monotonous. A really nice treat for alternative rock fans.
