  • Nice summer country pop concept album
  • Good vibes and versatile songs

I think it is the first time since I regularly do album reviews that I couldn’t present you an album review on a Friday morning this time. I just did not have interesting material from promotion agencies on that 18th July 2025. On top of that, an early morning flight and a tough week prevented me from some nightshift – which I typically do in these situations. The more, I am now happy to share some thoughts about new stuff by a country music artist, Niko Moon. On that Friday, he released his new record, American Palm.

Niko Moon – About The Artist

The borth name of Niko Moon is Nicholas Cowan. He also released songs as Nic Cowan due to that reason. His name changed by marrying singer-songwriter Anna Moon. The 20th September 1982 born Texas country pop artist is a professional musician since 2008. Especially at the beginning of his career, he was also very successful as co-writer and co-producer, e.g. for the Zac Brown Band. After there has been an EP with the same title in 2020, he released his debut album Good Time in Augusut 2021. After his 2024 release Better DaysAmerican Palm is his third album. I already featured Niko Moon’s EP These Are The Nights in November 2024.

The ten song album lasts 31 minutes.

1. I Love This Beach

Beach, sun, summer, the sea – these are topics, which are very present in Niko Moon’s third album. Thus, the already released I Love This Beach feels like a perfect opener. Groovy summer vibes define this song. However, there is still a clear country music signature in it.

2. Boat Song

You inevitably look for the sunscreen when Niko Moon is singing his Boat Song. The musical ingredients to this song feel similar to the opener, but especially the fine guitar lines spread some sea vibes.

I need a boat song
Kind that I can crank up loud and roll on
One that makes me wanna take a ride on these waves
Gets me drifting away
Something I can play all summer long
I need a boat song

3. Sandbar (feat. David J)

For the third song, Niko Moon teamed with with Nashville-based musician and songwriter David J. The song has a very modern country pop style. And the beach style stays on with that song.

4. King Of The Island

I think of Hawaii when I listen to the stanzas of King Of The Island. Nonetheless, I feel they are less catching than the ones of the songs before. Therefor, the fourth track of the album strikes with a lovely chorus, which stays in your mind.

5. Sea Forever

Even the love songs on American Palm get a beach and sea touch on American Palm. Yeah, Niko Moon is twisting the words in here a bit – but it is fun listening to this song again. I really like it.

I’m starting to see
Baby, what we got is meant to be
Something ’bout the way you pull me in like the tide
I see the rest of my life
Staring at this endless sea together
I can sea forever

6. Sandcastles

What would be a day at the beach without Sandcastles? Similar to Sea Forever, the key topic of the album is rather used as a metaphor – but it works. And it leads to a beautiful, emotional listen in the middle of the album.

We’re all castles in the sand
Holding onto time
They don’t ever last, but we still build ’em to the sky
So love with all you can
Raise the towers high
Ride this wave with everything you got
‘Cause in this life
We’re all castles in the sand

7. You, Me & A Beach

The style of the album continues at You, Me & A Beach. A fine guitar line, which is somewhere between between Hawaiian music and country, a country swag and a prominent beat. Yeah, American Palm is not the most deep album ever recorded. But it has its concept, its style, its fun. And it makes you smile.

8. Good Ones

Good Ones also illustrates the downsides of the concept of the album to me. I just don’t feel too many new elements or very catching elements in it. And then, a song like this might feel weaker than it actually is. In fact, it is a nice country pop song with – you guess it – summer vibes.

9. Something In The Water

The penultimate song is catching me again. A track which is connecting to the style of the album so far, but still has very strong vibes and a good sway. That’s summer country pop at a very enjoyable level.

There must be something in the water
Got me floating like a bobber
Cause I’m feeling like I might drift away
Tequila in my frozen drink
Naw, I ain’t worried bout a thing
Cause I got everything I need on these waves

10. Margaritaville

The album closes with Margaritaville. A slow track, which is very much driven by the guitar melodies and the present rhythm. Nonetheless, the steel guitar reminds you that this one is in fact a country music release. A nice song, which feels like a good choice for a dance at the beach.

Niko Moon – American Palm – My View

American Palm is a strong application for the summer country / country pop music album of the year. The concept of the album is clear, Niko Moon gives you a lot of opportunity to have summer feelings. Most of the songs have a certain catching and special element, so that it overall does not feel boring. I really like it.

Favorite Song: Sea Forever
