VIF – H71 (Men) 29-28 (14-14)

Om that 5th October 2025, VIF from Vestmanna in fact played against four times in a row against Hyovik’s H71. The last two matches of the day were in the second class Division 1, while in the second match, it was the Burn Menn, the Men’s Handball Premier League battle between the two clubs. I was really curious after the close battle in the women’s match before. Here is my match report.

VIF – H71 – Match Report

Both teams started very offensively, so that the score after 88 seconds was already 2-2. Both, H71’s Brian Slyne and VIF’s Filip Jojic, were in the scoresheet twice at that time. However, VIF managed to keep the momentum and Jojic’s goal in the 9th minute, another one of his eleven that day, gave the hosts a three goal lead. However, the match was a physical and mental fight with some discussions on both sides. H71 came back and in the 18th minute Jon Roi M. Hognesen tied the score to an 8-8. H71 even took the lead in the last minutes of the first half. However, Jojic tied the score to 14-14 with more than two minutes left to play from the penalty spot – and both teams failed to convert thereafter.

VIF stayed ahead

Also in the second half, the match was close. The story reminded me a lot about the women’s match before. The highest lead Vestmanna had was just two goals (multiple times in the period). On the other hand, H71 was in the lead only once, when Slyne converted in the 44th minute. The battle stayed close until the very last minutes. VIF was in the lead by 28-27 with five minutes left to play. However, both defensive rows and some lack of concentration lead to the situation that each team just scored once in the remaining time – the party was on the VIF side again, who won by 29-28.

VIF – H71 – My View of the Match

As expected, the men’s match was a very physical battle. Again, I was impressed of the level of play in the small territory of the Faroe Islands. Here and there, the match became a bit too emotional, but it was a stunning play in a very interesting atmosphere.
