Myrtle Beach is a typical US-American beach resort town. Finally, you got everything in there you might like to do on your vacation – and spend some additional money on. Thus, it is not too surprising that a large Ferris wheel is one of the eye-catchers alongside the Atlantic coast in South Carolina. In this post, I take you on a ride with SkyWheel Myrtle Beach.
SkyWheel Myrtle Beach – Location and Admission
The SkyWheel is located right at the Boardwalk of Myrtle Beach. You can easily approach it via N Ocean Blvd. Public transport is possible (bus C15S to 9th Avenue North at Ocean Blvd), but not really the right way to go. There are numerous parking lots around, There are numerous attractions in walking distance, including Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, Ripley’s Crazy Golf and many more. Furthermore the street features multiple basic restaurants and souvenir stores.
SkyWheel Myrtle Beach operates daily from 10:30 to midnight in summer. Winter hours might me more limited. During my visit, the adult admission was 18.99 USD. Nowadays, it is 19.99 USD before 5pm and 20.99 USD during sunset and in the evening. Including tax and fees, this is a total of 22.03 / 23.12 USD. There are multiple packages available to upgrade your ride.
SkyWheel Myrtle Beach – The Ride
SkyWheel Myrtle Beach is a 57 meter Ferris wheel, which has opened in 2011. It is by the way a sister model of the smaller Helsinki SkyWheel. At that time, it has been the second largest extant Ferris Wheel in North America. Nowadays, there are some more larger ones, including the High Roller in Las Vegas. Entering the enclosed and air conditioned gondolas went rather smoothly. The ride itself takes some fifteen minutes, with some four full revolutions. Each gondola has a capacity of eight people. I had the cabin for myself during my October 2023 visit.
The beauty of the location is also somehow its downside. Of course, the view of the beach is lovely. You also have a nice view of all the attractions and spots around the wheel, including the Myrtle Beach Pier. However, Myrtle Beach and its attractions is rather widespread, so that you don’t spot too many new things on the third and fourth turn of the wheel. Nonetheless, especially enjoying the view over the beach and the Atlantic Ocean is an awesome experience.

SkyWheel Myrtle Beach – My View
It is definitely fun to ride the SkyWheel Myrtle Beach. On a clear day, you have lovely views of the area. I guess it is an even better experience in the evening, when the Myrtle Beach attractions are illuminated. Shortening the ride to three revolutions would definitely also be fine.
