While I had quite a bunch of hotel changes of my inbound and outbound trip to Indonesia in October 2024, I just stayed in one hotel while being in the country and staying in Jakarta. Not that surprisingly, I opted for another Hilton stay and chose the DoubleTree by Hilton Jakarta – Diponegoro. It is one of two DoubleTree hotels in the city. Here is my review.
DoubleTree by Hilton Jakarta – Diponegoro- Location
The DoubleTree by Hilton Jakara – Diponegoro is quite nicely located. There are a couple of small businesses around and many key sights can be reached with a relatively short Grab ride or by public transport. The drive time to the airport (CGK) heavily depends on traffic though. Even though I made it within an hour on each way, you should at least calculate with 90 minutes. The airport express train might be a good alternative.
Regarding traffic connection, the hotel is quite nicely located. The commuter rail station Stasiun Cikini served by the Bogor Line. Manggarai station is just one stop away and connects to the airport express rail. It is a bit of bothering that the street at which the hotel is located, has separate Northbound and Southbound lanes. If you come from the South, you (or your driver) has to take quite a bit of a detour. In general, I would not recommend driving in Jakarta by yourself. The traffic culture there might feel disturbing for foreigners. Grab and peers are reliable and cheap. The hotel does drive a parking garage, though.
DoubleTree by Hilton Jakarta – Diponegoro – Room
I had booked a King Guest Room in the DoubleTree hotel. As part of my Hilton Honors Diamond status, I have been upgraded to a King Executive Room. The room rate for three days, Sunday to Wednesday, was 5,978,502 IAR, roughly 350 EUR. The room was really nice and welcomed you with a large hallway, from where you can enter the sleeping / living area as well as the bathroom. The light in there was actually a bit of tricky. You had switches for the bathroom light, but at least I did not spot any for the hallway, apart from the one next to the bed. The living and sleeping area was very nice, coming with a large work desk and drawers to store your belongings. The power outlets in the room were universal one – the typical local plug is equivalent to the German one. I did not like that there was just one free plug at the work desk. The nice sofa with table was another cool feature. I have been welcomed with some sweets and fruit.
The bathroom is very spacious as well. There is a shower only. However, that one was rather large. The area around the sink easily hosted my toiletries. Apart from soap, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner in dispensers, the hotel offered more amenities separately. For example, there was a touth brush and a shaving set. Due to its elevated position, he view from the room was a nice perspective over Southern Jakarta. Overall, the room was cleaned and well maintained. The daily housekeeping worked very well.
DoubleTree by Hilton Jakarta – Diponegoro – Executive Lounge
A nice feature of the hotel is that it runs an Executive Lounge on the 17th floor. As in fact the lounge spreads over two rooms. Thus, you a view over these parts of the Indonesian city. Basic drinks are provided from a fridge. You may, however, also order food. The seating in the lounge is really nice and offers a good range of options. The density of power outlets could be better. though. Basic snacks were provided also outside the special services. There is a limited afternoon tea in the early afternoon as well as the typical cocktail occasion with some basic dinner snacks. These services were fine. However, I did have more opulent options in other Hilton lounges around the world.
DoubleTree by Hilton Jakarta – Diponegoro – Breakfast
Breakfast at the DoubleTree has been an awesome experience. The restaurant is rather large and offers various stations with different styles of cuisine. The variety of dishes available reminded me of the awesome breakfast buffets in the United Arab Emirates. Some dishes were also changing, so that there was quite some variety. I especially liked the local dishes and the wide variety of fruit and healthy options. The service was very friendly and attentive. During peak times, it was a bit of hectic, which was less to due the setup than due to some a bit too selfish hotel guests.
DoubleTree by Hilton Jakarta – Diponegoro – Service
The staff in the hotel was really nice and attentive. Check-in and check-out went smoothly. The WiFi was sufficiently fast and reliable. The hotel has a nice pool area next to the breakfast restaurant. I really liked the style of it. Close to the pool area is also a gym, which felt sufficiently large regarding the hotel size.
DoubleTree by Hilton Jakarta – Diponegoro – My View
I really liked my stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Jakarta – Diponegoro. The staff is friendly, the location is not too bad. Especially the breakfast was a nice experience and gave me a relaxed retreat for my time in Indonesia. I would definitely recommend it.
