Being the only guest in a lounge almost demands me having a lounge review. This happened to me in Dresden in early September 2024. I was just about to head back home after covering the “Goldenes Oval” Opening athletics meeting and the Igels Dresden vs. Weißenfels Floorball Bundesliga match. Here is my review of the German Rail Lounge (DB Lounge) at Dresden Main Station / Dresden Hauptbahnhof, based on a Saturday evening visit.

DB Lounge Dresden – Location & Access

The DB Lounge in Dresden is located on the upper level of the main hall of the station. As the building is a protected monument, they are not allowed to put an elevator or escalator in it. Walking up the stairs with luggage can be bothering. There is a way to get out via elevator through a door to track 3, which cannot be opened from the other side (it takes you to some sort of service walkway), which was much more convenient.

In order to use the DB Lounge Dresden, you either need to have a flexible first class ticket (domestic or international), a German First Class Network Ticket (BahnCard 100 First) or are a frequent traveler of Deutsche BahnBahnCard 100 First and status customers have the right to bring one companion. The Lounge is operating from Monday to Friday between 7:00 and 21:00 and between 8:00 and 20:00 on weekends.

DB Lounge Dresden – Atmosphere

The lounge is rather small and does not compare to major ones driven by German Rail, Deutsche Bahn, like the DB Lounge Frankfurt Airport Station. Nonetheless, it feels quite cozy and comes with different kinds of seating areas. A key feature of the lounge are its large windows. On the one side, you can overlook the ticketing hall, while on the other side, you have a beautiful view of parts of the tracks and the historic building. This side even features some sort of balcony, which you can at least use to step out and have a look.

DB Lounge Dresden – Food & Drink

Catering in DB Lounges is typically limited. The DB Lounge Dresden comes with a large front with a coffee dispenser (also tea, chocolate and soup-alike drinks) as well as a dispenser for soft drinks. As it was still in the summer months, there was even complimentary ice cream. Some German Rail Lounges nowadays also have a machine where you can buy some snacks and food. The DB Lounge Dresden does not feature this kind of service, though.

DB Lounge Dresden – Services

The staff at the DB Lounge in Dresden was very friendly and helpful. Toilets are behind an automatic metal door, you have to walk stairs down to them. The WiFi is very reliable, as in all DB Lounges. There are also information screens telling you about train departures, platform assignments and potential delays. My train to Berlin, served by a Czech Railjet, however, was on time.

DB Lounge Dresden – My View

I really liked the DB Lounge in Dresden. It also shows that despite the limited size, the updated design of these places works out very well. The key downside was, of course, that it is not accessible. You cannot change that, but it is rather painful.
