Spotlight – Flyctory.com meets Bunch of Ace (September 2025)

Bunch of Ace is a Northern German teenage rockpop duo. They have been featured in my Songs of the Week multiple times already. The more I got into their music, the more I got into the two sixteen year old ladies, Alandra and Alessja, the more I was curious to get to know them a bit better. As they are releasing their new song Sweet 16 on 4th September 2025, this felt like being the perfect opportunity to feature them in one of my interviews. It was really, really fun to meet them – hope you enjoy so as well.

Spotlight – Flyctory.com meets Bunch of Ace

FLYC: Alandra, Allessja, you two are Bunch of Ace. How did you start doing music?

Alandra: We started with the age of 6 or 7. Alessja started playing the drums, I started playing the guitar. Our parents simply supported that intensely. We did some early education since we were four years or so, just hitting the xylophone and stuff like that.

We continued doing that. Thus, we got closer to the music. Three years ago, we founded our band by playing together. Last year, we embarked on it professionally.

FLYC: Was it always clear to you that you will do that together?

Alandra: At the beginning, it was absolutely unclear whether we would pursue something in that area or not.

Alessja: At first, we just tried out a few things. Things we finally might want to do.

Alandra: Finally, our music thing has developed fruther, including our different styles of music. Speaking of myself, the more I listened to different kinds of music, the more I was inspired by that. That also increased my passion for it. It became much clearer that music is definitely part of I want to do later.

Obviously, as we are living in the same household and both do music, we are able to do music together. I mean, that is really a big opportunity. We can always practice together.

Alessja: We don’t need to call each other and meet somewhere for that.

FLYC: I read that some three years ago, when you were thirteen years old, you also started writing songs together. What were the first topics you dealt with in these songs?

Alandra: Funnily, the first song we wrote was in fact a task from our music teacher. We did some music theory, and he told us to try to compose an eight bar song. I just went for it with a riff in A minor, very simply. Nonetheless, I thought, what is this song actually about. Thus, initially there was the Eight Bar Song, as it consisted of eight bars exactly. Then we developed it further and grew into more than just eight bars. We called it the Music Zone.

Unfortunately, we could not record this song. It was our first song, it didn’t entirely match in its compounds. But that was when the first thought of doing something with music initially occurred. We play music, we write music and we show that it is our passion.

FLYC: You already stated that you do music significantly more professionally since 2024. Your first single was Where Our Heart Goes. It was the first time you shared a Bunch of Ace song with the world. How was that like for you?

Alandra: That was quite exciting. We were really proud of what we did. We knew that we still had to develop – but it was a big step for us. Personally, I was also a bit nervous and thought, how people would react on this. I mean, just because I am enthusiastic about the songs does not mean that everybody else is, too. But after all the reactions were positive…

Alessja: Just as I said… And this is why we are continuing with it.

FLYC: Positive feedback is a good point. You are followed on social media; your music is played on radio stations worldwide. Not only in Europe, like at an Italian radio station, but even in South America. Have there been any special reactions from certain countries or certain events which especially surprised you or made you proud?

Alandra: Yeah, I feel it was the first TikTok post, which really became viral on our account. It had some 100k views, which was really a lot for us. Especially at the beginning. Nowadays we have much more, but at that time, we had typically some 200, 300 views. Thus, it was absolutely surprising. We did a Stevie Ray Vaughan cover, very simple, with Alessja on the drums and me on the guitar. We did not think about quality that much and simply recorded it with your cell phone camera.

When we started with a that basic recording and you then saw it growing – we were really stunned. Especially in England, it was played very frequently, which surprised us. At that point we started getting more into TikTok as we saw, one is getting back something from there.

FLYC: You mentioned TikTok. Bunch of Ace grew strongly on social media. Nowadays, you have 4,000 follower on Instagram and 12,000 on TikTok. Your most popular TikTok has been viewed over two million times.

[The girls are smiling very proudly]

FLYC: How important are these figures to you? Do they guide you in any way?

Alandra: We are really happy about anybody who is supporting us or giving us feedback. It’s important to know what others think, especially when it’s about the linking of our songs and the feedback of people of the same age as us. The personal contact at school is very different from the internet. At school, nobody really dares to tell you that the song you did really sucks. On the internet, people tend to be very fast and straight. This is generally more negative, as the feedback is typically not constructive.

I mean, if people say Hey guys, you should work on that one. There is something I feel you could improve, that’s absolutely fine. Unfortunately, there are so many out there who say That sucks or Do something different and these kind of things. We do not allow them to guide us with that. However, the positive things are really nice to hear and they really motivate us reassure us why we are doing this. Apart from the general passion for music, one ultimately doesn’t do music only for somebody to listen to, but for the feelings you have when you are playing.

FLYC: You already mentioned that on the internet, you generally run into a lot of negative comments and hate. How do you deal with that, maybe also together with your parents? Or are you simply ignoring it?

Alandra: We are quite strict about that. We don’t allow hate to reach us. I feel that there should not be a place for that. Indeed, we are just planning to do a single which is called Hater, a song against hate and which is calling people to be active against hate. It’s not just us who are affected by it, but many other people, too, in our group of friends as well as other TikTok creators we know. That’s simply not fair. I mean, even when I watch somebody and I feel he cannot sing – I can think that, but I don’t need to write it. Because It does hurt people really deeply. So, I consider our dealing with it as rather professionally.

Alessja: In addition, it may be also be because it is a band account. People who are doing it just for fun are typically influenced and hurt by hate even more. There is no band behind the account, but likely just a single person. Due to that, we deem hate as an absolute no-go – and thus we want to release this song.

FLYC: Hopefully, a more positive question: How are your schoolmates reacting to the music of Bunch of Ace?

Alessja: In general, I would say the feedback is good. Maybe not everybody is daring to give feedback – but overall, the things our friends and other pupils tell us is very positive.

FLYC: Let’s go back to your music, your songs. Your last single has been I’m not the One. What is that song all about?

Alessja: Essentially, you can say it is a rather relaxed track, regarding the feeling it radiates. What’s the song about? Well, it deals with deciding to go on, not to stand still, not to be stuck in the past.

Alandra: In the lyrics, it is a kind of love song. She is telling about her ex-boyfriend and his wish to come back to her. As it did not work out with his new girlfriend. But she says “No, I don’t need that. I don’t want to. I am moving on”.

FLYC: On Friday, 4th September 2025, you are releasing your new song, “Sweet 16”. The song is about a 16th birthday. How much of “Sweet 16” is based on your 16th birthday, which was some six months ago?

Alessja: The idea for the song was indeed born on our birthday. There is a bit of an 80’s feeling in it. I’m an absolute 80’s fan, hence we listened to that kind of music on that day. So it had to be in the song.

Alandra: The story of the song is a bit like that I woke up on our birthday and thought “Okay, I am 16 now. How is life changing for me? Shouldn’t everything be different now? Especially, in US-American culture, becoming 16 is a big deal, something special. But then, I woke up, brushed my teeth, had breakfast and so on. Things you do every day. I went to school and somehow there was no difference. I somehow have that feeling on every birthday. You feel something should happen, but actually it doesn’t. I perceive this is quite exactly what the first stanza is about.

And then, it is developing a bit, you see that especially in the music very well. On the evening, there is a party with dancing and we really have a nice dance section in the bridge. We are very proud of that as we did that together with Step & Jam, a local dancing school. It’s really cool. At the evening during the party I then felt that it is finally not about that there is a big change. But simply about enjoying yourself

Alessja: … and having a party!

FLYC: When you record songs like Sweet 16, do you have musical idols or blueprints? Or do the songs simply develop? Alessja, you for example said that you are a big 80’s fan.

Alandra: It really depends. But for Sweet 16, we in fact had a song as a role model, Dancing on the Ceiling by Lionel Richie. Some other songs have been inspired by another song. For example, you had a certain groove or so. Others are just developing. We are sitting down, playing something, and having an idea. And then I write it down and we listen to it.

FLYC: You told me before that you release the songs of your album song by song, which finally leads to the full album. Can you already say something about it?

Alandra: Yeah, we can already say that there will be a couple more songs to be released, which will be part of the album. Our English album No Trouble is quite resolutely heading into a pop-rock direction – and No Trouble is its clear message. Better don’t mess with us.

Moreover, we are also working on a second album in German, which will be called Tanz im Wasser (“Dancing in the Water”). We are currently working on finishing all the tracks and aim to release it in January 2026. For this one, we won’t release song by song, but have two single releases beforehand.

FLYC: Maybe a question about your life in general. As you said, you are still going to school, you are 16 years old. How do you handle all that in parallel to the music?

Alessja: Well, you are at school and after that you are at home. And what are you doing when you are at home? Music. At least when we don’t have to do homework.

Alandra: Sometimes, it is a bit stressful, but so it is never boring. We are just go down into the basement and play music. We also work on things like marketing. Luckily, we have the support of our parents. Otherwise, we would not be able to do all of this, it is a lot of work. Still we coordinate it somehow.

However, we can’t do major tours or similar, simply because we are bound to school and – of course – we want to finish school.

FLYC: You are teenagers and twins. Naturally, there are tensions or disputes here and there. What are you doing in that situation?

Alandra (hugging Alessja): Come on, we love each other.

Alessja: There are not too many tensions. But if it happens, typically one of stays and makes music in the basement, while the other one is playing music upstairs.

Alandra: It may happen that we are not playing music together for some two days, but commonly we resolve that quickly. There have never been serious issues. Latest, when there is a new song idea, then we are back together.

FLYC: Maybe some positive vibes at the end. Alessja, what do you especially like about your sister?

Alessja: Oh, currently, she is leading the interview and I can have to throw in my ideas here and then (smiling). I have to say that she governs the band very well and I enjoy joining her in that.

FLYC: Alandra, you may guess the next question: What do you especially like about Alessja?

Alandra: She is cheering all of us up all the time. By that she sticks us together as a team. Also when I am sometimes a bit too concerned about all and struggle to believe that this thing is turning out well – Alessja is there and lift us all up. That is very important.

FLYC: You already mentioned the German album. What else will happen with Bunch of Ace the next months?

Alandra: First of all, there is the release of Sweet 16 next week. Thereafter, there will be some single releases. Regarding the German songs, it will be Hater, where we engage against hate.
