Kendall Lujan’s music is an interesting blend of different genres. She is mixing folk, country, pop and jazz in her songs. She already gained a certain fan base with this special style. On 21st February 2025, Lujan released her debut album Lucky Penny. Here is my review.
Kendall Lujan – About The Artist
Kendall Lujan is an artist from Portland in Oregon. The US-American released her debut single Envy in 2021. In March 2023, Her self titled debut EP followed in March 2023. She already had multiple tours in Europe.
Kendall Lujan – Lucky Penny – Track by Track
The ten track album lasts 34 minutes
1. How ya doin’
Ain’t that friendly to start the song with a nice How ya doin’? In fact the opener of Lucky Penny has a fine, but also slightly melancholic touch, which is focusing on Kendall’s voice and not adding too much on the instrumental side.
2. Weird birthday song
The Weird birthday song comes with more present instrumentation. The rhythmic, groovy, slightly rocking style of the style turns it into a nice listen. There are also some indie flavors in this track. Overall, the mixture of influences is rich and turns it into a really good one.
3. Lucky Penny
The title track of the album is at its third position. From the very beginning, it spreads strong folk music vibes. The contrast of a very accentuated, almost staccato sound and flowing melodies lead to special vibes.
4. Return to sender
Lucky Penny is a truly versatile album. This song is rather driven by the organ. It also rather develops a jazzy spirit, not only due to the brush-style drumming. Overall, the track has a lovely vibe and flow, feels relaxed on the melody side.
5. You got me
The jazzy style even gets more present at You got me. There are rarely any Americana elements in this track. Therefor, there is a nice merge of vocal and instrumental elements, the latter majorly driven by the piano. I do feel, though, that these are even a bit too present and make it hard to focus on the story of the song.
6. Time
Time brings back the folk and country vibes to the album. The song feels very virtuous, sometimes even a bit (too) experimental. It definitely creates its own vibes. In these kind of songs, it is also much easier – and enjoyable – listening to Kendall Lujan’s vocals.
7. I want to be in love with you
The melodic I want to be in love with you is one of my favorite listens. The song still has the virtuosity of jazz and works with a wider instrumentation. On the other hand, it comes with the flow of folk music. I really like it.
8. Untitled love song
There are – unfortunately – not too many new songs on Lucky Penny. One of them is Untitled love song. The song is a hidden gem, working nicely on the melodic side and leading to a beautiful, dreaming listen. Really nice.
9. Boston
In her ninth song of her debut album, Kendall Lujan is taking us to Boston. The song is guitar-driven with a present rhythm. In later parts, the song drifts into a more virtuous atmosphere.
10. Goodbyes
Kendall Lujan welcomed the listener to her debut album with a How ya doin’ – and farewells them with Goodbyes. A polite approach, which leads to a fine melody at the end of the album.

Kendall Lujan – Lucky Penny – My View
Kendall Lujan’s debut album underlines her wide range of music. The songs are nicely written. Even though it is a debut album, I struggle that it only contains two previously unreleased songs. That’s a bit too thin in my point of view.
Favorite Song: Untitled love song
