Flyctory.com Cons

  • Weird directions to the hotel from the motorway
  • No gym

After featuring the rematch of the Netherlands and the Faroe Islands in Almere, Netherlands, I decided it was the better option to stay in a hotel nearby. There were not too many options which suited my profile and were also affordable. Being a GHA Titanium member, I went for a stay with that alliance in March 2025. I opted for an NH Hotel, the NH Hotel Bussum Jan Tabak. Here is my review.

NH Hotel Bussum Jan Tabak – Location

The hotel is located at the East edge of Bussum, close to the exit of the motorway A1. The area around is rather residential there are a few business outlets around. There are not too many touristic facilities like g stations, restaurants or grocery shops in close proximity.

The walking distance to the train station Naarden-Bussum, which directly connects to Amsterdam and Utrecht, is a little less than 2 km. The NH Hotel Bussum Jan Tabak is rather a car hotel. The hotel offers a parking lot as well as garage parking (for a fee). Unfortunately, accessing the hotel by car is tricky. Coming from the motorway, you have to more or or less drive a wider loop around the hotel. The only access is through a narrow road from the North. The signs are not ideal.

NH Hotel Bussum Jan Tabak – Room

I had booked one night in a standard double, including breakfast, in March 2025. The promotional, but flexible rate for the Sunday to Monday stay was 105.84 EUR, including all fees and taxes. They assigned me to the Guest of the Day (maybe also because of my status) and upgraded me to a junior suite. In fact, the suite consisted of two adjacent rooms, which also had a connecting door. One room, through which you also entered, was made for living and working, while the other one was rather a room to relax and hang out. This lead to much more space than I expected (and needed). I finally ended up more or less just using the main sleeping and working room. The room was large, not too posh, but very fit for purpose. I liked the large working desk as well. The hotel gave me a cute welcome gift as well.

The living room area had a separate toilet, which I did not use. I did like the bathroom with a combined shower / bathtub, though. It also came with sufficient space to store your toiletry items. Amenities were provided in dispenser. The whole room felt being well maintained and absolutely clean.

NH Hotel Bussum Jan Tabak – Breakfast

The breakfast area at the NH Hotel Bussum Jan Tabak is located on ground level. The large windows are really nice, you likely can also have breakfast outside in the nice garden on warmer months. The hotel came with a nice selection of warm and cold items. I liked the juice selection there as well as the relaxed atmosphere there. The Faroese Handball National Team were staying in the same hotel during my stay. As far as I could reconcile, they had separate breakfast arrangements. Overall, the start of the day was really nice in this NH Hotel.

NH Hotel Bussum Jan Tabak – Service

The staff in the hotel was really kind and helpful. Despite more or less arriving in parallel with the team, the check-in process worked very well. On reception level, there is also a nice bar area and a small snack kiosk. The WiFi provided worked very well. The hotel does not drive a gym or similar facility. After I had so much trouble with that at NH in the past, I should state that the hotel recognized and acknowledged my GHA status at check-in without even asking.

NH Hotel Bussum Jan Tabak – My View

There are a couple of rather mixed reviews, but I really liked my stay t the NH Hotel Bussum Jan Tabak in the Netherlands. The setting and location is really nice. The only way which drove me a bit of mad was the weird way to drive into the hotel premises, also because the last bit rather feels like a cycling route than a (small) street. Nonetheless, it was a definite Top Pick! experience.
