  • Great, versatile goth metal album
  • Easy to follow lyrics / story
  • Very atmospheric album

Let’s close the weekend with some goth metal. On 1st November 2024, the US-American project Neon Nightmare released their debut record Faded Dream. I received the album through a promotion agency and felt to share my view with you.

Neon Nightmare – About The Artists

Unfortunately, I cannot give you too much bio information. The band feels to have their roots majorly in Brooklyn, New York City. There are also some links to Birmingham in Alabama. Neon Nightmare refers their music being close to Type O Negative.

Neon Nightmare – Faded Dream – Track by Track

The seven song album lasts 41 minutes.

1. Higher Calling

The first 55 seconds of the album are taken by this intro track. A phone is vibrating, some voices in the background. Neon Nightmare is giving us a slow start into their debut album.

2. Lost Silver

Lost Silver is one of two tracks, which have already been released before the album. The dark lead voice leads to an intense, mysterious sound. The guitars are strumming in the background. This song is excellently arranged and leads to a very intense, almost seven minute listen. I appreciate that the vocals are really clear. That makes it easy to follow the story of the track and leads to an even more intense experience.

3. It’s All Over (For You)

The second full-length track of the album (full length means 5:40 minutes here) is It’s All Over (For You). The song kicks off some cool guitar riffing and present drumming, before the vocalist joins in after some one minute. Again, Neon Nightmare is not going for too speedy play. The song feels relaxed, but very intense, including a short quieter break in the middle.

4. LATW2TG

The almost eight minute song LATW2TG follows a same pattern. First, the band leaves space to introduce the instruments, before the lyric side of the track is added. This time, Neon Nightmare increase the tempo, though, which adds a nice touch. However, there are also some more sterling moments, which overall leads to a nicely contrasting song.

5. They Look Like Shadows

Apart from the intro track, They Look Like Shadows is the shortest song on Faded Dream. This still means that you are listening to this one for 4:30 minutes. I am sure you don’t go for the skip button, as the very melodic and hard rocking style of the song definitely deserves a full listen.

6. She’s Drowning

Another Faded Dream single release has been She’s Drowning. The song has a beautiful Gothic touch, but also has scattered melodic elements. Goosebumps are possible while listening to the sixth track of the album.

7. Promethean Gift

Are we already there yet? Yes and no, the last stage of this seven part goth metal experience, Promethean Gift, almost lasts for ten minutes. This also means that the band can invest quite some time into an intense atmosphere, which is slowly becoming more and more intense. There is a nice contrast between choir-alike, reverb-driven rock parts, and very vocal-centric elements. The instrumentalists also make use of this last opportunity to showcase their skills.

Neon Nightmare – Faded Dream – My View

Yeah, I would definitely like to know more about Neon Nightmare. I did find some rumors about the band, but nothing seems to be confirmed yet. Thus, there is “just” the music they present on their debut Faded Dream. And that’s great. A very intense sound, at which even the epic tracks don’t risk feeling boing. Very good one.

Favorite Song: LATW2TG
