In February 2024, I had my first flights with Saudia Arabian Airlines. The flights from Tunis (TUN) and Jeddah (JED) were served by the older (and less comfortable) Airbus A330 fleet. I will feature them separately. My flights from Jeddah (JED) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL), however, were driven by their posh Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner. I had my flights in the front of the cabin. Here is my review of the experience in Saudi Arabia’s national airline.
Saudia Arabian Airlines – The Fleet
The backbone of the Saudia (or Saudi Arabian Airlines) fleet are almost 60 Airbus A320/A321 airplanes, which are obviously rather used for shorter distances. There are some 30 A330 planes. On the Boeing side, there are still three Boeing B747-400 planes. The key part of their long-haul fleet are some 40 Boeing B777 and some twenty B787 planes. Only some of the B777 planes feature the Saudia First Class.
Saudia Arabian Airlines – My Boeing 787-10 Flights
As said above, I had flights from Jeddah (JED) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and back in February 2024. In both directions, I had rather long transfers in Jeddah (JED) with flight connections to / from Tunis (TUN). The transfer went very smoothly.
Saudia Arabian Airlines – At The Airport
The Saudia business class desk in Tunis (TUN) is a bit of hidden in the corner of the terminal. Check-in was very smooth, there was access to the Privilege Lounge at that airport as well. The check-in services at Kuala Lumpur (KUL) was outstanding. They also managed to check me and my luggage was checked through to my Air France flight from Tunis (TUN) to Dusseldorf (DUS) via Charles de Gaulle (CDG). The Golden Lounge International (Business Class) at Kuala Lumpur (KUL) was amazing.
I will do a designated post about transferring in Jeddah (JED). The transfer was very smoothly and was done in less than 15 minutes. The Saudia Alfursan Lounge at Jeddah Airport (JED) is outstanding – I really enjoyed being there, despite quite some hours of transfer at that airport in Saudi Arabia.
Saudia Arabian Airlines Boeing 787-10- Business Class Cabin
While most of the other widebody jets of Saudia come in different cabin layouts, there is currently just one version of the B787-10. The business class cabin in the front comes with six rows of four seats in a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone layout, i.e. single seats at the window and two seats in the middle. The seats in the middle face each other and the window seats towards the window. The seats can be converted to a flat bed for sleeping during the flight. The table is folder below the large screen. Together with the armrest area with a storage underneath, this leads to a really nice and large area for dining and working. I absolutely loved the small touchscreen to control the setting of the seat.
There are only overhead bins over the window seats The seat comes with a three-point seat belt, The foot area is significantly more narrow than the seat, but sufficient to relax or to sleep. The key profit from that layout is that you have quite a lot of privacy, even in the middle, where there is a divider. Next to the seat, there is a smaller storage, which I overall really appreciated.
Saudia Arabian Airlines Boeing 787-10 – Business Class Inflight Experience
Saudia is influenced by the Islamic religious attitude. There are also prayers. However, I felt that this impact is rather decent. It did not impact my flight experience. Saudia is a “dry airline”, which means that they don’t serve alcohol. However, this lead to a lovely range of non-alcoholic drinks, including non-alcoholic bubbles. I did not miss alcohol on board – but it may impact you. Just to avoid any kind of prejudice: it is, of course, absolutely fine to fly Saudia in Western clothing or to transfer in Jeddah in European / American style flight attire.
The business class seat comes with an universal power outlet as well as an USB-A power plug. Noise-cancelling headphones are provided. The large screen is really nice and comes with a good resolution. Saudia is not close to the market leads, but offers a really wide range of movies, TV series and music. You will easily find something suitable for you, even for longer flights. The Saudia amenity kit is really nice. The onboard toilet does not have any special perks apart from some additional toiletries. As I wrote in the corresponding Food I Had Onboard posting, the service by the crew was really kind and attentive.
Saudia Arabian Airlines Boeing 787-10 – My View
Saudia gave me two really good flights in their Boeiing 787-10. The seats are good, the service is excellent. I also liked their services in Jeddah, especially the Alfursan International Lounge is a real treat. A good hardware and good crew lead to a really good product – I loved it!
