After I just had one night in Vienna in April 2024, watching a show of the Rock of Ages musical tour, I wanted to spent much more time with exploring the city on a trip in June 2024. As the hotel situation was really weird (means: extremely high prices), I ended up in a one of the outlets of the B&B Hotel chain. Here is my review of the B&B Hotel Stadthalle in Vienna.

B&B Hotel Stadthalle – Location

Finally, the B&B Hotel Stadthalle would have been the perfect location for my Rock of Ages stay. It is indeed located right at the Stadthalle, a multi-venue entertainment complex in the heart of the city. The Westbahnhof, one of the major train stations in the city, is some 15 minutes walk or a short tram ride away. Around the hotel, there are numerous bars and restaurants, which is very handy. A shopping mall with a grocery store is just about a block away.

The hotel is located close to several tram lines. Thus, it is a nice temporary home to explore the Austrian capital. However, you need to transfer rather often, so that I would to pick other rather cheap locations at the next stay. While I felt that the underground and commuter rail system is quite transparent, I a bit struggled with the right platform for several tram lines around, especially at the Burggasse-Stadthalle stop, which is some three minutes walk away.

B&B Hotel Stadthalle – Room

My booking was a three night booking in June 2024, Thursday to Sunday. The rate with a three day cancellation period, including breakfast was 316.50 EUR. My room was almost on the top of the hotel. Thus, the room was absolutely spacious, which I did not expect at all. However, the desks next to the bed did not seem to fit to the size of the bad, there was quite a gap on one side. The work desk got its work done and the “boxes” to sit on proofed to be more comfortable than they might look alike at first sight. What I really like about B&B Hotels is the nice number and distribution of power outlets in the room, which I felt to be very handy.

The bathroom with shower was absolutely fine for purpose. Again, it was rather on the comfortable side, leaving me sufficient space for my toiletries. There are no faciltiies like a fridge or similar at B&B hotels. I however received a free water as a member of their loyalty program. The room was very well maintenaned and absolutely clear.

B&B Hotel Stadthalle – Breakfast

Breakfast at B&B hotels is typically served in a cupboard-alike buffet. I felt that the upper level was very high in Vienna. Honestly, I doubt that my wife (1.60m) would have reached the bread rolls, for example. Apart from boiled eggs, there are no warm dishes. However, the selection of cold cuts, bread, milk products and drinks is nice and has nice quality. Quite a lot of the items are even organic produce.

However, there were also two downsides. Especially on Sunday morning, when it was more crowded, this way of putting up a breakfast buffet is just too contact and leads to a lot of stress. Apart from that, I felt that that the breakfast staff did their best to do the job, but simply did not really have a chance to do so. In one or two situations, I even felt that they are rude. I also did not like that you could see that food (bread / bread rolls) are stored on the floor of the kitchen.

B&B Hotel Stadthalle – Service

B&B Hotel claims to provide cheap, basic, but also reliable accommodation with all the services you really need. The check-in was very friendly, while I felt that the check-out was less personal. You receive a numeric code, which is opening the door of the hotel (if necessary) and the room during your stay. WiFi was really fast and reliable. As said, I struggled with the service during breakfast, though. The hotel is having its own parking garage. There are no facilities like a gym or similar.

B&B Hotel Stadthalle – My View

Overall, B&B are doing a good job. However, one thing I just hate when I am staying in a hotel is when the hotel as such is putting me under stress. Especially the Sunday morning breakfast was not relaxing at all. I finally decided to stop it and have another bite somewhere else. If you are not heading to a show at the Stadthalle, the location might also not be ideal. This unfortunately impacts my overall good view significantly.
