Getting a reasonably priced hotel during Olympic Games is typically a very tricky task. Thus, I was quite happy when we found a travel agency deal for Hotel Maison du Pre in Paris, when my wife and I visited the Paris 2024 opening days. Here is my review of our stay.
Hotel Maison Du Pre – Location
There are four du Pre hotels in Paris. They are all in the same area. Thereby, Hotel Maison du Pre is the only two star-rated place of this little chain. It is located at Rue de Maubeuge. The area features several shops, some other hotels and some restaurants. Compared to the area of Paris I typically stay in for business trips (near Arc de Triomphe), it is comparably cheap to get around there. The hotel has six floors, but each of them is just having a few rooms.
The hotel is located a some five to seven minute walk to Gare du Nord train station, which features international connections to London, Belgium and Germany. It is also a key point to access public transport. There are also numerous bus stops in the area. An additional point to reach the metro is Poisonniere, served by line 7.
Hotel Maison Du Pre – Room
My wife and I had a two night stay at Hotel Maison du Pre in July 2024, Friday to Sunday. Friday was the day of the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Our booking was via a travel agency in a double room, including breakfast. Thus, the rate we paid does not compare to public rates. As the price was rather good, I rather expected an at most average place. Thus, we were quite surprised by our upper floor room, which was not very tiny. The double bed was right next to the room, which may be a bit of bothering when you travel together. You should not have too much luggage, but for the city trip, it worked out well. There was even a small work desk and power outlets were scattered all over the room. Thus, it was really a good value for money, keeping the time of travel in mind.
The bathroom was even rather spacious, due to its location right under the roof. You might like or dislike the design, but it felt being rather recently refurbished. There was only a ventilator, no air condition, which made it rather warm. You also heard the adjacent street a bit. On the other hand, the whole room was absolutely clean. Hotel Maison du Pre also gives you basic amenities in small tubes.
Hotel Maison Du Pre – Breakfast
The breakfast room of the hotel was actually really nice and cozy. The breakfast buffet was a bit of limited, but that’s not too uncharacteristic for the French capital. You still had good bread, some condiments and cold cuts and cereal. I actually enjoyed the juice they provided. Thus, the hotel at least met our expectation. As it is rather a budget place, I would even say it slightly exceeded it – there are significantly worse morning experiences in that city.
Hotel Maison Du Pre – Service
The staff in the hotel was lovely. They were also very helpful and communication in English worked out well. When you left the hotel, you had to leave the room key at the reception. I typically don’t like that too much, but for visiting the sports venues, it was rather handy. WiFi is available throughout the hotel and worked out well. We were also able to store our luggage before check-in and after check-out. Hotel Maison Du Pre also drives a little bar. During our visit, people did not make too much use of it, though.
Hotel Maison Du Pre – My View
There are so many lousy places in Paris, especially in that rail station area. Hotel Maison du Pre is definitely not one of them. The people are great and want to offer good hospitality. The room was not huge and had some design issues – but finally, I had smaller places to stay in Paris for a much higher price. Finally, the location is very handy. We reached the stadiums quite conveniently. Thus, I really liked our stay there.
