While getting a reasonably priced hotel in Paris for Olympic Games 2024 was quite a hassle (at least if you don’t gamble and book in advance), the situation in Lille was comparably relaxed. I had multiple reasonable options and went for an Accor stay to watch the Women Handball Medal Matches at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. The ibis Styles Lille-Neuville-en-Ferrain is located right at the motorway and thus felt like a great option for the night before the matches took place. Here is my review.

ibis Styles Lille-Neuville – Location

Neuville-en-Ferrain is a suburb of Lille, right at the French-Belgian border. If you come from Gent, the hotel is in fact located right at the A22 motorway at the first exit on the French side. The area is a mixture of commercial and residential. Two stops away, there is a major shopping area with a large mall and a huge grocery store..

Public transport options are limited. There are a few bus lines on the opposite side of the motorway, but in fact, the ibis Styles is rather a car place. The hotel offers sufficient parking for that, including charger positions for electric cars.

ibis Styles Lille-Neuville – Room

I had a standard room rate night, Friday to Saturday, in August 2024. The flexible rate including breakfast was 140 EUR (during the Olympic Games). ibis Styles room are sometimes a bit of a gamble, but this one turned out being really nice. It was sufficiently spacious for a short to medium stay, I liked the design with the large print on the wall behind the bed. The work desk easily fit my two notebooks, which I absolutely liked as well. The room also had air conditioning, which I highly appreciated during the hot summer in Europe in 2024.

The bathroom and toilet were separated. The toilet is a bit of narrow. I generally don’t like this layout too much, also because you typically don’t have a sink in the toilet room The bathroom itself was very nice, with dispensers for the amenities. House keeping was really good, so that the room was absolutely clean.

ibis Styles Lille-Neuville – Breakfast

French breakfast is rarely at the top notch of your culinary memories. Based on that, the breakfast at the ibis Styles was absolutely fine. The quality of bread and cold cuts is typically good – and so it was at the ibis Styles Neuville-en-Ferrain as well. You could also boil eggs by yourself (I was too lazy for that…). The breakfast room is actually a really nice place. I also liked that they had a dedicated buffet for kids.

ibis Styles Lille-Neuville – Service

The staff in the hotel was absolutely nice. After I was surprised having quite some issues with speaking English only during my Paris experience, I had no issues in Lille, including the hotel. The lobby features a couple of really nice options to hang out and enjoy yourself. The gym is a bit of narrow, but fit for purpose. It also had a sauna, which I really liked. A really nice feature of the ibis Styles Lille-Neuville-en-Ferrain is their large garden, which is a beautiful place to hang out on a sunny day. Even though it is right next to the motorway, it felt comparably quiet. The kids loved to have a swim in the reasonably sized outdoor pool as well.

A nice feature which I want to point out explicitly is that the staircases are explicitly highlighted on the carpets of the hotel hallways. Especially in case of an emergency, I feel this is a very helpful thing. The WiFi connection in the hotel worked absolutely well.

ibis Styles Lille-Neuville – My View

I was quite surprised that the reviews of the ibis Styles Lille Neuville-en-Ferrain were good, but rather average. Yeah, there is “just” French breakfast, but the staff is really nice and the location is very convenient. I would not necessarily expect a pool at an ibis Styles as well. I really enjoyed staying at this place. Due to the garden and pool, it is also a nice option for families.
