Covering the opening of the “Goldenes Oval” and the Dresden vs. Weißenfels Floorball Bundesliga match took me to Dresden in late August 2024. Due to my Titanium Status at GHA Discovery, I opted for the NH Hotel Dresden Neustadt, which felt like a good option, regarding its location and price. Here is my review of the experience, which had some rather difficult parts.
NH Hotel Dresden Neustadt – Location
Dresden Neustadt is a borough of Dresden, North of the River Elbe and the city center. The hotel is located North of the corresponding train station, at the Hansastraße. There are some businesses in the area, including a grocery store and a McDonalds restaurant. You do have to commute to reach the Dresden attractions.
The public transport situation is quite nice. The closest public transport stop is Friedensstraße, which is featured by tram lines 7,8 and 13 as well as bus line 477. The NH Hotel Dresden Neustadt is also some five minutes walk away from Großenhainer Platz, which is better connected to the Dresden Neustadt station, featuring local and national rail connections. The hotel also drives its own parking. At the time of writing the review, the daily parking rate was 18 EUR.
NH Hotel Dresden Neustadt – Room
I had one night in a standard room at the hotel. The stay in August, Friday to Saturday, was 125.84 EUR and included breakfast. As the hotel was not aware of my GHA Discovery status (see below), there was neither an upgrade nor a welcome present of any kind. The room design had a rather traditional,a bit of frumpy design, but therefor had a really nice size. I also liked the triangular work desk in the corner of the room. A nice feature was the small make-up desk next to the bed, which thus features daylight. The room comes with an empty fridge, which is very helpful, especially for a longer stay.
The bathroom is on line with the design of the room. It was sufficiently spacious and came with a shower. Amenities were provided in dispensers. Like the whole room, the bathroom was well maintained and absolutely clean.
NH Hotel Dresden Neustadt – Breakfast
Breakfast at the NH Hotel Dresden Neustadt was a really nice experience. They were a bit thin on the warm dishes side, but the selection of breads, spreads and cold cuts as really nice. There were also sufficient healthy options. The breakfast room with a large window front is a nice place as well.
NH Hotel Dresden Neustadt – Service
The staff at the hotel was really friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, check-in and check-out became a nightmare as NH Hotels runs two frequent traveler programs in parallel, their own NH Discovery program as well as being part of GHA (with different qualification criteria). As I reported in my nhow Frankfurt review, the merger of the two programs lead to a nightmare. Finally, the Dresden hotel did not only miss my GHA Titanium status (despite I booked through it), but also broke my account and destroyed my points and record. Fixing it, including resetting existing points and status nights took several e-mails and a bunch of days. This is, explicitly stated, not caused by the hotel itself, but by the brand. Still shocking that so long after the merger, they still did not get it.
WiFi in the hotel went very well and was very helpful for my reporting. The hotel also granted me a late check-out after they could reconcile my status.
NH Hotel Dresden Neustadt – My View
The hotel could be a bit more modern, but overall, the NH Hotel Dresden Neustadt is a nice stay. The location is not ideal, but as one tram is bringing you to the city center and the main station and the other one to Dresden Neustadt, it is also not bad at all. I have to downgrade the rating due to the poor handling of my GHA status. Definitely, there must not be issues like that any more that long after NH Hotels has joined the alliance.
