  • Characteristic vocals

Flyctory.com Cons

  • Not as characterful as previous albums

There are not too many bands which I featured in three album reviews already. One of them is Palila from Hamburg. After my thoughts about Mind My Mind (2023) and Rock’n’Roll Sadness (2021), this post looks at their 2025 album. Children Will Be Furious has been released on 4th April 2025.

Palila – About The Artists

Palila is an indie-rock trio from Hamburg. The band members are Matthias Schwettmann (vocals, guitar), Christoph Kirchner (bass) and Sascha Krügel (drums). The band is releasing music since 2019. Apart from the 2020 Tomorrow I’ll Come and Return Your Records, I reviewed all albums of the band.

Palila – Children Will Be Furious – Track by Track

The eleven track album lasts 38 minutes.

1. The Beginning Of The Beginning

The Beginning Of The Beginning is indeed the beginning of The Beginning – a one minute, noisy sounding intro to the in fact opening song of the album, named The Beginning.

2. The Beginning

Was that intro worth it? I would say yes. The Beginning is a nice way to get into Children Will Be Furious. The song comes with really nice indie vibes. The sound of Matthias Schwettmann’s voice adds a special, characteristic touch. I like it.

3. Songs For Bears

Even though Songs For Bears feels a bit more dynamic to me, I feel that it could divert more strongly from The Beginning. Maybe the riffs on the guitar side and the nice bridge add a bit more own signature to it. Nonetheless, I felt that The Beginning leaves a stronger mark – even though I really love this song’s title.

4. Pure

The Hamburg indie-rock trio shared three songs of her 2025 release beforehand. The first one on Children Will Be Furious is Pure. The song is nicely driven by the guitar and rushes with a fast pace. With 2:33 minutes, it is one of the shorter episodes of the record – but especially the instrumental side of it stays in your mind.

5. To The Sun

To The Sun opens with a rather fine, even a bit of melancholic style. However, after some 65 seconds, the guitars break out of the limited sound and hammer their riffs. With the six string and the microphone, it is again Schwettmann, who is in focus of the listener.

6. Orion

With quite a difference to the next-longest one, the six minute Orion is the longest song of the track. Just when you think that the track is an instrumental, guitar driven rock track with a strong atmosphere, you recognize that this was just the two minute warm-up. Thereafter the song contrasts with rather intense and fine melodies. The nice indie flavor stays.

7. Perry Rhodan

Even though there is indeed a break between the two songs, Orion also feels like a long and detailed introduction to Perry Rhodan. The seventh song on Children Will Be Furious is more energetic and comes with a stomping rhythm. The song is rather short, but it adds a nice flavor and is a nice musical link to the song before.

8. Hollywood, Save The Day

For Palila fans, Hollywood, Save The Day is the second song on this album they already know. The song starts with intensely marching guitar chords, but thereafter, the song changes to a rather fine one. Later, it is even having some nicely flowing elements.

9. Back

With Back, Palila’s 2025 record is slowing turning into the final straight. On the instrumental and melodic side, the song does not offer too much variety in the first part, but feels more entertaining later.

10. 1999

Children Will Be Furious continues with the gentle, dreaming memories of 1999. Even though the sound of the song is not too bad, there is also a lot of struggle in the track. For example, Palila’s singer asks What a moron I have been?. I like this beautiful reflection.

11. Mysterious Ordinary Man

Here we go, the final song. The trio again offers a nice indie rocker, which is based on cool vibes on the vocal and instrumental side. I do struggle a bit, though, if that sound is already strong and unique enough to working as a signature of the band.

Palila – Children Will Be Furious – My View

Out of the three Palila albums I shared with you, I feel that this one is slightly the weakest spot. Indeed, the band is developing and tries to define their own style. The musical quality is fine. Nonetheless I feel that the other albums left a stronger, more unique mark.
