Trip Report: On Tour with Weird Al Yankovic (Preview)

Weird Al Yankovic

Weird Al Yankovic at Gröna Lund, Stockholm

My first flyctory.com Trip Report leads me to Georgia and Tennessee. Starting from Cologne airport, my key aim of that tour is to see three concerts of “Weird Al” Yankovic and his band in three different places, together with some sightseeing around the road and in the key city of this trip, Atlanta. Al and his band’s tour will be very special – the “Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour” will not contain costumes and parodies on existing songs as usual, but just be a concert with their own funny songs in focus, each show having a different set list.

In 2019, I followed Weird Al again, having a trip report on his Strings Attached tour.

This first article just gives the trip overview:

Date Flight from to Hotel Concert
12.04.2018 LH 1997 CGN MUC Hampton Inn Lawrenceville
LH 97 MUC FRA
LH 444 FRA ATL
13.04.2018 Hampton Inn Chattanooga Walker Theater, Chattanooga, TN
14.04.2018 HI Express Augusta Downtown Miller Theater, Augusta, GA
15.04.2018 Home2Suites Atlanta Downtown Tabernacle, Atlanta, GA
16.04.2018 AC 7545 ATL YYZ
LH 6559 YYZ LHR
17.04.2018 LH 2475 LHR MUC
LH 1992 MUC CGN

On 16th April, I have been transferred from AC 7547 to AC 7545 due to snow in Toronto.

Flight LH 6559 is in fact operated by Air Canada and marketed as AC 858. The intercontinental legs are booked in Premium Economy, all other legs are booked in Economy / Y. AC 7547 is Air Canada Express.

Travelling within the States is done by rental car. I chose the first hotel / stop, Lawrenceville, just due to its proximity to malls and some Dave & Buster’s stores and to have an easy transfer the next morning to Chattanooga, where the first concert will take place. In general, the three venue cities will be quite interesting: Chattanooga is the home of the world-famous “Choo-choo” and I expect some lovely landscape on route, Augusta has just done the famous green jacket golf masters before and Atlanta is Coca Cola city and more – will definitely try to go for some search on the Olympic historic sites – knowing that there is not too much left of the 1996 places.

Here are links to the daily trip reports (expect them to be updated the day after):

Other postings which are based on this trip’s experience:

In this category, I will write some sort of travel diary or “Trip Report” of special trips I took (typically related with a certain amount of flying).
